About This Conference

Introducing the latest and most relevant international research, the Standing Up To Bullying! Conference, a 4-hour conference offered onsite or as a live webinar upon request, is designed to empower and equip k through 12 grade school administrators, educators, social workers, counselors, psychologists, law enforcement, as well as other professionals who work with children, with a variety of hands-on skills, tools, techniques, and interventions that could be utilized by all school staff to recognize, minimize or eradicate school bullying, violence, and suicide. These tools can be used as a standalone or in conjunction with any existing school prevention programs.

Participants will learn:

  • The latest international research and statistics on school bullying and violence
  • The characteristics and risk factors of bullies, victims, and bystanders
  • The nature and characteristics of cyberbullying
  • The psychology and potential consequences of bullying
  • Warning signs of suicide, school shooters, and mass homicide

About the Speaker

Mark Lakewood, CEO

Mark Lakewood, CEO of Building Strong Families National Seminars, is a distinguished bullying prevention expert, researcher, author, and national speaker with decades of clinical experience as a mental health therapist. Prior to establishing his own private practice, he was employed at medical/psychiatric hospitals and clinics, and a family preservation agency. Mr. Lakewood has an extensive history providing mental health therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults. He worked extensively in the k-12 school setting both as a school social worker and as a school-based mental health clinician. Mr. Lakewood provided consultation and professional development staff training to numerous school administrators and educators as well as provided clinical services to students and their families on issues of bullying and behavior management. He has and continues to conduct extensive research regarding school bullying, violence, suicide, and aggression.

How Sponsorship Money is Spent

Sponsorship money is spent on:

  • Travel (Airfare should the conference be scheduled in a state outside of Arizona, car rental, parking, and fuel)
  • Accommodations (Sleeping room and food)
  • Venue
  • Advertising

Conference Fees

To compensate for limited school budgets, our goal is to offer this conference free of charge to all school staff. However, if we are not able to reach our financial goal, we may need to charge conference registrants a small fee to make up the difference. We will notify our sponsors in advance should we decide to charge a conference fee.

Refunds

In the event that this conference is cancelled, sponsors will be fully refunded unless either or both of the following occur prior to the cancellation:

  • The advertising begins. If sponsorship money is used on advertising, sponsors would be fully refunded minus any money used for advertising prior to the cancellation. In the event of multiple sponsors, the money used for advertising would be divided upon all of the sponsors when calculating the refund. Sponsors will be notified in advance as to when the advertising will begin.
  • The airfare is purchased if the conference is scheduled outside of Arizona. We plan to purchase airfare as early as possible to keep the fee as low as possible. If sponsorship money is used on airfare, sponsors would be fully refunded minus any money used for airfare prior to the cancellation. In the event of multiple sponsors, the money used for airfare would be divided upon all of the sponsors when calculating the refund. Sponsors will be notified in advance as to when airfare will be purchased.
