Empowering Victims of Bullying
Children bullying at schools has always existed. Bullying is a result of low self-esteem from both the victim and the bully. What people might not know is that the victim of bullying has the power to stop or minimize bullying by thinking and reacting in a certain way. The idea is the focus on the things that are controllable as opposed to that which cannot be controlled. It is up to the parent to teach their children how to take advantage of these abilities. Children with high self-esteem realize that the things that bullies say are not true, so bullying does not effect them. If a child has low self-esteem,he or she is more affected by the bullying because it impacts his or her self-worth. If a child already feels inadequant, the bully further validates those feeling. It is important for parents to empower their children in order to minimize the effects of bullying.
